On the most legendary Telarc album, the 1812 Overture is an audiophile dream.The magnificent recording of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Erich Kunzel, combined with brilliant sound effects, makes this piece a sonic treat. The bells, are those of the Emery Memorial Carillon, representing the sound of church bells in the spirit of Tchaikovsky.In order to capture the most authentic recording possible, three cannons from the 19th century Fifth Virginia Regiment were used to capture the sound of the cannons as realistically as possible. Tchaikovsky’s score requires different charges, so that no two cannon blasts are the same. The high dynamics of the cannon sounds are easy to hear.
